Experience
Anthony J. Aldave, MD, is Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at UCLA, where he directs the Corneal and Refractive Surgery Fellowship. He has received numerous honors during his career including the A.O.A. scholarship award for graduating first in his medical school class, the prestigious Heed Foundation Fellowship, the coveted American Ophthalmological Society-Knapp Testimonial Fund Fellowship, and the first Claes Dohlman Society Award, given to the top Cornea/Refractive Surgery Fellow in the country.
Dr. Aldave began performing refractive surgery in the late 1990s during his residency in ophthalmology at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He refined his skills during a two-year Cornea, Uveitis, and Refractive Surgery Fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco. As a full-time member of the Jules Stein Eye Institute faculty, Dr. Aldave performs a wide variety of refractive and anterior segment surgeries, and is involved in developing novel surgical techniques and devices for ocular surface reconstruction and corneal transplantation.
Regarded as an authoritative figure in Cornea and Refractive Surgery, Dr. Aldave regularly reviews articles submitted for publication for ten ophthalmology and genetics journals, and has been invited to give more than 30 scientific presentations at regional, national and international meetings. In addition, he has over 50 publications on various topics in Cornea and Refractive Surgery. The American Academy of Ophthalmology has recently recognized Dr. Aldave’s contributions to the field of Refractive Surgery through his appointment to a Refractive Surgery advisory group and various Cornea and Refractive Surgery planning committees.
